The Saison Journal | November 2023

The first chill is in the air and a beautiful burnt rust orange has swept across the treetops. Squash of every shape and color, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, apples and pears are all over the market and destined for hearty salads, warming soups, galettes and comforting pastas. Fragrant spices like nutmeg, cumin and coriander have been filling my kitchen and the most beautiful amber maple syrup seems to be dripping from every baking pan, coating roasted vegetables and cakes alike. It's such a beautiful time of year for cooking and I often find myself carving out time on a Sunday afternoon to cook a meal with extra love.

With holiday tables just around the corner, I wanted to share a few simple recipes to inspire your upcoming cooking. Read on for three seasonal recipes and a special announcement about the upcoming holiday shop (coming soon!).

Wishing everyone a happy autumn, Xx Sammy

Cooking & Dining

It's dinner party season and my absolute favorite time of year to gather with friends on a chilly evening over a fragrant, cozy meal. The dark evenings call for cooking something a little elaborate, setting the table with tall candles and layered linens and lingering around the table til late. Recent favorites at home have been the most addictive pumpkin olive olive loaf cake, curried butternut squash soup, and spaghetti al limone with charred chili broccolini.

With Thanksgiving just two weeks away, I wanted to share a few easy recipes that hopefully will become new classics on your table. When it comes to the Thanksgiving meal, I am often longing for an abundant salad and bright, herby flavors. My dream menu consists of beautiful seasonal recipes with punchy flavors that nod to the classics — roast vegetables over smoked labneh, seared trout with olives and herbs, creamy mashed potatoes, and a beautiful radicchio salad. I encourage you to cook what your heart desires and make some new traditions. Here are three recipes to inspire your upcoming holiday cooking: Herby Green Sauce
