Pear + Ginger Cocktail

This simple, versatile cocktail is an easy batch cocktail to prepare, making it perfect to serve at your holiday gathering. It also makes for a festive mocktail, just skip the bourbon and top with ginger beer or sparkling water.

Notes: If you don't have a juicer at home, feel free to use store-bought pear nectar instead, just make sure it's good quality and all natural. To intensify the ginger flavor, juice a small piece of ginger along with the pears and lemon.

Pear + Ginger Cocktail

makes 2 drinks

2 oz bourbon (or other spirit of choice)

2 oz pear + lemon juice 1 ounce ginger simple syrup Sparking water or ginger beer, to top Lemon twist, to garnish (optional)

Pear + lemon juice

3 pears, peeled + diced

1 lemon, rind removed

Ginger simple syrup 1 1/2-inch knob of ginger, peeled + sliced 1/2 cup agave

1 cup water

In a small pot, combine agave, water and ginger. Bring to a gentle simmer, stirring constantly until the agave dissolves in the water, and reduce heat to a low simmer. Let mixture cook for about 30 minutes, until ginger is soft. Remove from heat and let mixture steep for another 30 minutes. Discard ginger, strain mixture into an airtight jar, and refrigerate until ready to use. Simple syrup will keep for 2-3 weeks in the refrigerator.

Using a juicer (I use this one), juice pears and lemon. Refrigerate mixture until ready to use. If using store-bought pear nectar, squeeze 1/2 lemon into each drink when serving.

To make the cocktails, combine bourbon, juice, and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake until chilled and pour over ice in a tall glass. Top with sparkling water or ginger beer, garnish with a lemon twist + cheers.
